Sarah Ferguson, the former Duchess of York, has been spotted at a luxury ski resort in Austria, ending months of speculation about her whereabouts. New photographs published by The Sun on Thursday show Ferguson emerging from a blacked-out Mercedes-Benz van near a chalet, wearing a blue coat and carrying a teal raffia tote bag, with her hair tucked under a white baseball cap.

“Fergie has been keeping an incredibly low profile while high up in the Alps,” The Sun’s source told the publication. “She hasn’t been seen for a long time and has clearly wanted to keep it that way. Her choice of outfit when she popped out was obviously carefully chosen to help her avoid being recognized. The area is absolutely beautiful and it’s very quiet most of the time, so it’s the perfect place for a high-profile figure such as her to lie low when the heat is on.”

Ferguson’s disappearance from public view followed the release of the Epstein files, which included emails between her and Jeffrey Epstein. She has not responded to calls from U.S. lawmakers to give evidence about her relationship with the convicted sex offender.

Ferguson, 66, who ceased using the Duchess of York title last year, had not been seen in public since she was spotted at the christening of her granddaughter Athena, the youngest daughter of Princess Beatrice, at St. James’s Palace in London on December 12. She had last made an official public appearance at the Duchess of Kent’s funeral at Westminster Cathedral on September 16.

Her whereabouts had been the subject of speculation since she and her former husband, Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor, were evicted from Royal Lodge in Windsor Great Park, where they had lived since the 2000s. Andrew subsequently relocated to a private home on the Sandringham estate, where he was arrested in February on suspicion of misconduct in public office and released the same day. (The former Duke of York has always denied any wrongdoing.) Reports in March suggested Ferguson may have been staying with friend Priscilla Presley, a claim that a spokesperson for the former wife of the late Elvis Presley later denied.
