The Baltimore Ravens need to beat the Green Bay Packers in Week 17 to keep their slim playoff chances alive.

The game will be a tough test for Baltimore. Not only will the Ravens be playing on the road at Lambeau Field, but they also figure to be relying on the services of backup quarterback Tyler Huntley throughout Saturday's game.

Here's what to know about Lamar Jackson's status for the Ravens' Week 17 game and beyond as they look to remain in the 2025 AFC playoff race.

Is Lamar Jackson playing today?

The Ravens announced Jackson was "doubtful" to play against the Packers on the team's final injury report for Week 17.

While Jackson wasn't immediately ruled out for the contest, the two-time MVP was unable to practice in the lead-up to Saturday's game. That set the expectation Huntley would start in his place.

Lamar Jackson injury update

Jackson is dealing with a back injury he suffered midway through his team's Week 16 loss to the New England Patriots.

Jackson wasn't able to return to the "Sunday Night Football" game after being kneed in the back while sliding to the ground after a 3-yard gain. Huntley finished the second half and Ravens coach John Harbaugh later told reporters Jackson had suffered a serious back contusion.

Harbaugh provided updates about Jackson's Week 17 status throughout the week. He told reporters Dec. 24 it was "undetermined" whether Jackson would play against the Packers and that the team would evaluate Jackson throughout the week before determining his status.

"He could play without that practice for sure," Harbaugh said of Jackson. "He's played a lot of football, won a lot of games for us. If he's ready to go, he will go. If he can go, he will go. You can bet on that."

But ultimately, Jackson wasn't able to practice because of the back injury and was slapped with the "doubtful" designation for Saturday's game.

Who is the Ravens' backup QB?

Tyler Huntley is the Ravens' backup. The 27-year-old is expected to start in place of Jackson against the Packers in what would be his second start of the 2025 campaign.

Huntley has completed 76.6% of his passes for 319 yards and one touchdown in his limited action with the Ravens this season. He helped lead the Ravens to a 30-16 win over the Chicago Bears in Week 8 in his lone start but has a career record of 6-9 in 15 starts.

Huntley has completed 65.7% of his career passes for 3,105 yards, 12 touchdowns and 10 interceptions.

Cooper Rush

Rush started the 2025 NFL season as the Ravens' backup quarterback before being overtaken by Huntley. The 32-year-old struggled in two starts after replacing an injured Jackson earlier in the season, completing 65.4% of his passes for 303 yards and four interceptions.
